Perhaps you've heard of it. If you haven't seen it online, surely you've read about it, involuntarily so, on the tabloids that bombard you at your local grocery store's checkout line --a society of A-listers that have been reduced to a class of invalids--sick people. One must realize that today's pop-culture has been heavily influenced by such people--those who suffer from Sad Celebrity Syndrome (SCS).
Note: I did not "make up" this disease, I simply coined and diagnosed it. The truth is, many prominent people throughout history have been suffering from this severe condition, however I'd like to focus the contemporary cases.
Sad Celebrity Syndrome is defined by its name. As I observe the art and matching lifestyles of today's artists (particularly those in music), it is apparent to me that many are wounded. As an example, rap artists boast about stuntin on the average person with their elaborate wealth and yet on the next track complain about the difficulties of being a celebrity. It occurred to me that despite the fame, the fortune, and all the many pleasures that are made available to these people, they are yet empty and unfulfilled.
I believe that these are the people Paul warns Timothy of-- those who are "ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth (II Timothy 3:7). In other words, these particular people are searching for satisfaction, but can not find it. They've tried every drug, every lust, every doctrine, philosophy and every form of escapism in hopes to quench their thirst, but consequently, are left dry. In short, they've tried everything, but Jesus.
Jesus once posed the question to his disciples, "For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?"( Matthew 16:26) On the surface, one might assess that the whole world is a huge payoff. However, Jesus knew that the world (and all its pleasures) ultimately amounts to nought. In reality, there is no substitute for a relationship with Jesus Christ. One may gain everything the world has to offer, and yet be miserably unsatisfied.
And so I'd like to close with this final scripture.
A little that a righteous man hath is better than the riches of many wicked (Psalms 37:16).
God Bless You,
