O, the joys of dating! The excitement!
The newness of romance!
Walking closely with cozy hands!
Time is naught,
tomorrow may never come!
Eternity spent in a night,
no thought of the sun!
Young women with flirting eyes
bat their lashes,
at young men with tapered hair
and trimmed mustaches.
Fluttering hearts,
light as feathers--
so In the wind,
they'll dance together.

Right.....
Sound familiar? Don't lie to me, I've seen the mushy stuff that you post on each others facebook walls. I've also noticed the ever-changing relationship statuses from "in a relationship" to "single", back to the former. In general, dating seems to be a fickle practice.
So why do we date? Some may say "to find love" and others may be looking for "just a good time". There is no wonder why dating has become so confusing. No worries! I purpose to clear up some of that confusion with this blog.
I did a little "research" and got a few opinions on dating that I'd like to share with you. Do with it what you will.

Through the Eyes of Guys
Let's first talked about dating from the male perspective. Generally, men consider themselves to be more logical than their female counterparts. In other words, men believe themselves to be the more emotionally-checked, rationally sound individual in the relationship. Perhaps the most interesting of assessments of male/female relations was this:
" Men live in the now, Women live in the past or future - for example, men are about whats happening now while women are about What-ifs, What was and what could have been
--a fellow man
This suggests that the theoretical seems to be a major concern for women-- in short, men believe that women "over-think" the relationship.
I will now list a Q&A from the Male perspective.
1. What's a girl's approach to dating?
-girls are more confident that they have the guy's interest
-girls don't have to continually try to impress the guy
-girls have too many choices (which creates a highly competitive dating scenario for guys)
2. What's a guy's approach to dating?
-requires more strategy
-more pressure for a guy to impress a girl
3. Would you rather have a monogamous relationship or date around?
-depends on whether or not the girl is "Ms. Right"- do not want to settle
4. What's important in choosing a girl?
-looks are important, but not as much as one may think.
-companionship--a girl to be "best friends" with--is very important
-share same Faith

Now it's the ladies' turn
Excuse me for my rudeness, letting the guys be heard first--I figured you ladies were dying to hear what the guys had to say. At any rate, the female perspective wasn't much different from the guys. Interesting...
Generally, women would agree that, by nature, they are more emotional than guys. Big surprise. What you may not have known is that women consider themselves to be more emotionally prepared for serious relationships than guys. One girl said this:
"Guys tend to casually date (as oppose to having serious relationships) because it's a safeguard against heartbreak... I, on the other hand, would rather date one person than to be caught up in the 'serial dating' scene."
Here's a Q&A from the ladies' perspective
1. What's a girl's approach to dating?
-more likely to take a relationship seriously
-more vulnerable than guys
-thinks very hard before dating a guy
2. What's a guy's approach to dating?
-casually date
-guy's have agendas
-date on impulse
-vain-- based on looks
3. Would you rather have a monogamous relationship or date around?
-monogamous is ideal
-or date around until find the most compatible one
4. What's important in choosing a guy?
-nice (with a hint of rebellion)
-friend
-Same beliefs

My two cents on dating
To put it simply, dating is hard. I've experienced both serious and casual relationships, and both have their pros and cons. If you'd like to know the pros and cons in detailed, leave a comment and I'll list 'em.
Dating is a relatively new phenomenon-- there was no such thing as dating in the Bible days and therefore the Bible doesn't mention any scriptures about it.
However, as Christians, the Bible instructs us to "Love your neighbors as yourself", for it is the second greatest commandment (Mark 12:31). With that being said, I think there's a code of ethics one should follow while dating--one should be respectful, respectable, honest, kind, etc. In short, your walk with Christ should be reflected in your dating habits.
Also, I strongly believe that, naturally, people desire monogamous relationships-- God intended it to be that way. Monogamous relationships are more fulfilling, more stable.

Lastly, I believe before one can properly love another, one must love his or her self. To take it a step further, one must know the love of Jesus in order to properly love at all.
