"...But the just shall live by his faith" (Habakkuk 2:4b)
Before I could even my open my mouth to make my request known unto God, He placed this scripture on my heart this morning. Perhaps I was anxious due to God's abruptness, for I promptly finished my prayer and jump on my PC to Google it. I wanted to see the context in which the Scripture was written and, to my amazement, it was exactly what I needed to hear. Unfamiliar with the ministry of Habakkuk, I back tracked, reading everything leading up to this compelling verse and furthered my understanding by researching some background information. This is what I ascertained.
Habakkuk was a prophet in the southern kingdom of Israel, Judah. His ministry was during a time in which evil and treachery had prevailed, and the judgment of the king had been marred. With violence, strife, and contention infiltrating Judah, Habakkuk seemed to be confounded by God's seemingly inactive Hand. The man of God had prayed and God had delayed His response. God finally responded to Habakkuk with these words.

Habakkuk 2:2-4
“Write down the vision
and make it plain on tablets
so that a herald may run with it.
3 For the revelation awaits an appointed time;
it speaks of the end
and will not prove false.
Though it linger, wait for it;
it will certainly come
and will not delay. (NIV)
4 “ Behold the proud,
His soul is not upright in him;
But the just shall live by his faith. (NKJV)

You see, Habakkuk wanted God to pass judgment. He wanted results. He did not want to witness his country's corruption, for they were the people of God. However, God responded with a promise, not with the results just yet. Look, I don't know what you're going through but there's not a doubt in my mind that God is able to take care of your situation. Maybe you've prayed and sought God, and it seems like you haven't gotten any results. Perhaps you're feeling hopelessness because you thought God would have surely heard and answered your prayer by now. Or maybe you are in a hostile situation and you've become frustrated waiting for God to deliver you out of your troubles. Consequently, because of your despair, you are losing faith. My friend, as God said to Habakkuk, "the just shall live by his faith."
I believe God is saying in this passage, just wait on Me. I'll correct every wrong in due time. You can rest assure that it will come to passed. I know things are bad, but have faith. Believe in Me. Be faithful in your service to Me. The just shall live by faith.
Let's go back to the basic. Believe.
